Exposure Basics II – Practical Assignment

For the final part of this assignment I was asked to take 5 pictures for 5 days, for a total of 25 pictures (somehow I ended up with 488). Then I had to choose 6 of these, which was an impossible task! We weren’t allowed to edit the pictures in any way except cropping them.

I have a lot of photos that I really liked, but this learning activity was about learning exposure and including things like motion blur and depth of field, so I included examples of that. I think I will have to add a few bonus pictures at the end!

Most of these pictures were taken around 8-9 AM or 7-8 PM, because the light and shadows are much more interesting when the sun is about to set or have just risen. It also makes it easier to avoid overexposing the image.

Edit: I suddenly realized that all of my pictures have the subject in the center!

“Friends”
Aperture: F/7.1 Shutter: 1/80 ISO: 200 Focal Length: 70mm Cropped.
For English readers, the writing says: “Friends”
Pine Cone
Aperture: F/4 Shutter: 1/160 ISO: 100 Focal Length: 70mm.
Church Ruins
Aperture: F/11 Shutter: 1/100 ISO: 100 Focal Length: 17mm
Bumblebee
Aperture: F/4 Shutter: 1/160 ISO: 100 Focal Length: 70mm Cropped.
Field
Aperture: F/7.1 Shutter: 1/250 ISO: 100 Focal Length: 50mm Cropped
Drain pipe (Motion Blur Experimentation).
Aperture: F/14 Shutter: 1/6 ISO: 100 Focal Length: 40mm Cropped

Bonus Images!!!

I wanted to add a few of my other pictures, that were quite fun to take, but didn’t have the right exposure settings or didn’t quite show the full range required by the assignment. There are a bunch of other ones I would like to add, but then the purpose of this post would get lost.

Left picture: Aperture: F/4 Shutter: 1/60 ISO: 100 Focal Length: 70mm Cropped. Right picture: Color corrected.

This was a fun one, to show perspective, but the ruin was better.
Aperture: F/16 Shutter: 1/30 ISO: 100 Focal Length: 38mm Cropped.
The Moon seen through a telescope. I had to remove the eyepiece, and carefully align the camera lens to the telescope to get a picture of the whole moon, which took about half an hour. The subject was too small, so that’s why the final image is blurred.
Aperture: F/22 Shutter: 1/400 ISO: 800 Focal Length: 70mm Cropped.
This image is interesting, because all the lines create a lot of eye movement. It’s a fun composition.
Aperture: F/7.1 Shutter: 1/160 ISO: 100 Focal Length: 17mm Cropped.
I loved the colors and texture of the tree! It was a tough choice, but I chose the pine cone instead.
Aperture: F/4 Shutter: 1/500 ISO: 100 Focal Length: 70mm.
